About the Role
Are you ready to start your engineering career working on technologies that are helping transform industries around the world?
Transmission Dynamics is looking for enthusiastic and ambitious Graduate Engineers to join our growing multidisciplinary engineering team.
Whether your background is Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related discipline, you’ll have the opportunity to work on genuinely innovative technologies incorporating advanced sensing, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial IoT and data analytics.
Unlike many graduate programmes where you’ll spend months observing from the sidelines, you’ll quickly become an active member of the engineering team, working alongside experienced engineers on real customer projects from day one.
As a growing engineering business, we don’t believe in placing graduates into narrow specialisms too early. Instead, we’ll help you build a broad understanding of our technologies while encouraging you to develop your own interests and strengths. As your experience grows, you’ll naturally begin to specialise in the areas that excite you most.
Key Responsibilities
Every graduate’s journey will be slightly different, but you can expect to become involved in activities such as:
- Supporting the design and development of innovative engineering solutions for customers across rail, mining, energy, defence and heavy industry.
- Assisting with mechanical design, electronics development, instrumentation and product testing.
- Building and assembling prototype systems and production hardware.
- Supporting laboratory testing, calibration and engineering investigations.
- Assisting with data acquisition, validation and engineering analysis.
- Producing engineering documentation, drawings and technical reports.
- Supporting installation and commissioning activities both at our headquarters and occasionally on customer sites.
- Working alongside software developers, data analysts and experienced engineers to solve complex engineering challenges.
- Contributing ideas to the development of new products and technologies.
As your confidence and experience develop, you’ll take increasing ownership of engineering activities and customer projects.
About You
We’re looking for graduates who are naturally curious, enthusiastic and passionate about engineering.
You don’t need years of commercial experience—we’re much more interested in your attitude, enthusiasm and desire to learn. If you enjoy solving practical engineering problems, asking questions and challenging yourself to continually improve, you’ll fit in well at Transmission Dynamics.
Whether you’ve gained experience through university projects, Formula Student, placements, internships, personal engineering projects or part-time work, we’d love to hear about it.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or expected graduation) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong engineering fundamentals.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A genuine enthusiasm for engineering and technology.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and develop across multiple engineering disciplines.
- A practical approach with strong attention to detail.
Desirable Skills & Experience
We’re not expecting graduates to have experience in all of these areas, but any exposure would be advantageous:
- CAD design.
- Electronics design or testing.
- Instrumentation or sensors.
- Data acquisition.
- Manufacturing or assembly.
- Programming or embedded systems.
- Engineering laboratory work.
- Formula Student, robotics or engineering competitions.
- Industrial placements, internships or summer work.
- Final-year engineering projects relevant to sensing, instrumentation or mechanical systems.
Why This Role is Different
Most graduate schemes offer the opportunity to become a small part of a very large organisation.
At Transmission Dynamics, you’ll become an important part of a small and growing, collaborative team where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers developing technologies deployed around the world.
You’ll gain exposure to every stage of the engineering lifecycle, from concept development and design through manufacture, testing, installation and customer support, giving you experience that would typically take many years to acquire within a larger organisation.
No two projects are ever the same. One week you could be helping design bespoke mechanical systems, the next supporting instrumentation on a high-speed train, testing new sensing technologies or assisting with the development of AI-enabled monitoring solutions.
If you’re looking for variety, responsibility and the opportunity to accelerate your development, this is an excellent place to begin your engineering career.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for graduates who are:
- Curious and eager to learn.
- Passionate about engineering and innovation.
- Practical problem-solvers.
- Enthusiastic team players.
- Adaptable and willing to take on new challenges.
- Organised and proactive.
- Excited by emerging technologies.
- Motivated by making a genuine difference through engineering.
