About the role: You will turn complex data from our Industrial IoT systems into insights that help customers across rail, energy, mining and heavy industry improve safety, reliability and operational performance. Working alongside mechanical engineers, software developers and electronics specialists, you’ll analyse real-world engineering data using Python, SQL, statistical methods and machine learning. We are recruiting at two levels, Data Analyst and Senior Data Analyst, and we’ll consider you for the level that best fits your experience.
Key responsibilities:
Data Analyst
- Collate, clean and process large engineering datasets.
- Analyse strain, vibration, audio and image sensor data using signal processing techniques.
- Research and implement AI and machine learning techniques.
- Work alongside engineering teams to interpret data and solve technical challenges.
- Automate analysis pipelines to deliver critical results to clients.
- Develop client-facing dashboards and technical reports.
Senior Data Analyst
In addition to the above:
- Lead end-to-end analytical projects from concept to client delivery.
- Research, develop and implement advanced AI and machine learning methodologies.
- Mentor and support junior members of the data team.
- Develop complex analytical methodologies and engineering simulations.
- Present findings and technical recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Help shape the future direction of our data analytics capability.
What you don’t need: You don’t need a degree in data science if you can show us equivalent experience, and you don’t need to be an engineer, you’ll learn the engineering context from the team.
Essential:
Data Analyst
- Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrable experience using Python and SQL.
- Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present technical information clearly.
Senior Data Analyst
In addition to the above:
- Approximately five or more years’ experience in data analysis, data science or a similar role.
- Demonstrable experience delivering complex analytical projects.
- Strong experience applying AI and machine learning in commercial or industrial environments.
- Ability to lead projects and communicate complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues.
Desirable: Experience in several of these areas would be advantageous, but none are essential:
- Experience analysing vibration, strain, acoustic or other engineering sensor data.
- Computer vision or image processing experience.
- Experience working with Industrial IoT or industrial monitoring systems.
- Mechanical engineering knowledge or experience working in engineering environments.
- Experience with software engineering tools to rapidly develop and maintain reliable software.
- Experience developing customer dashboards and technical reports, or familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms.
Why this role is different: Data analysis here isn’t about spreadsheets and business reporting. You’ll analyse data from advanced sensing systems on trains, wind turbines, escalators and rotating machinery around the world, helping predict failures before they happen. You’ll build systems that run your analyses automatically and deliver them to clients so they can act before a problem stops a train or a turbine. Senior Data Analysts will also help shape the direction of our analytical capability and lead next-generation AI-powered solutions.

- Someone who enjoys turning messy real-world sensor data into something trustworthy.
- Someone who can explain a finding to an engineer in one sentence and to a client in one slide.
- Someone who wants their analysis to run on its own and catch problems early.

Location and commute
Location: Cramlington, Northumberland, at our purpose-built R&D and manufacturing facility on Northumberland Business Park, 1 Innovation Way, Cramlington NE23 7FP.
Ample on-site parking, close to the A1 and A19, about 20 minutes from Newcastle, and within easy reach of Morpeth, Whitley Bay and Blyth.
Hours and conditions
Hours: Full time, office-based.
This role is based at our Cramlington office; candidates must be able to work from the office.
